ESD dexterity training

Endoscopic submucosal dissection and related techniques are widely practiced in Europe. The technique requires excellent endoscopic skills in various circumstances and positions. This ESD training program offers participants the opportunity to train key aspects of this complex endoscopic procedure with a focus on instrument handling and endoscope control.

Trainees will be guided through the various steps of en-bloc resection, build several endoscope handling skills in different parts of the gastrointestinal tract in anatomically challenging positions, and learn to employ advanced endoscopic tools precisely.

Simulator based two days Hands-on Course

Hands-on training sessions are designed to enable trainees to put what they learned about ESD into practice. These small group, expert-led sessions will be performed in a state-of-the-art learning environment using state-of-the-art instruments.

This dexterity training is based upon the use of novel non-animal position simulators. These simulators enable to create realistic variations in the conditions and position of the lesions in relation to the endoscope, thereby offering a safe environment to train clinical procedures without patient involvement before performing procedures in a clinical setting.
Simulators also provide a standardized way to evaluate endoscopic skills, ensuring trainees meet minimum dexterity levels and competency standards.

Learning objectives

  • to acquire theoretical knowledge on endoscopic en-bloc resection, instruments and how to get prepared
  • to understand the different strategies for ESD
  • to acquire technical skills for endoscope handling in difficult endoscope positions
